Spearmint is the dried leaves of the herb called mentha spicata. The dark green leaves have a pleasant, sweet, warm flavor with a cooling sensation. 

Although considered a native plant of Europe and Asia, is now grown systematically in Egypt and the U.S.

In ancient Greece, the spearmint was used not only as a spice in cooking but also as an ingredient in perfumes and for bleaching teeth. 

It is currently used as a beverage but also as a spice in Greek, Egyptian and Indian cuisine.
